Inside the book

What ADHD Made Simple covers

ADHD is a condition that is largely misunderstood. Much of what individuals and the wider community believe about it is incorrect and carries negative connotations — which is not only unhelpful but unnecessary, and potentially quite harmful. In this short, concise, easy-to-follow book, Dr. Alison Poulton brings clarity and understanding to a complex neurodevelopmental condition.

It is written by an expert who has studied and worked in this field for many years, yet it is presented in refreshingly plain language. The book answers the questions people actually ask:

  1. What does ADHD look like in day-to-day life? The everyday signs, and why they are so often mistaken for something else.
  2. Does it show up differently in children and adults? How ADHD changes as a person grows, and what stays the same.
  3. What options are available? What can be done, from understanding and everyday strategies to treatment — and how to decide what is right for you.

Whether you are seeking self-understanding, trying to work out how best to help a friend or loved one, or simply want to learn more, ADHD Made Simple has the information you are looking for.

Reviews

As someone who has, for over three decades, followed the large and complex research literature on ADHD, I know first-hand how difficult it is to distil that knowledge in a simple yet accurate manner. Can we achieve that goal when teaching about ADHD? Dr. Poulton’s answer is “yes” and her new book shows that she has achieved that goal.

ADHD Made Simple is a great book for anyone wanting to learn more about ADHD in easy-to-understand terms. It is refreshing to see a doctor providing useful information without using complex medical terminology. In this book, Dr Alison Poulton covers the different traits of ADHD across the ages, along with other co-existing conditions, and not only covers medication that works but also non-medication strategies that are beneficial as well. As a coach, it will definitely be a book that I recommend to my clients.
